People are invited to participate in some Scandinavian delicacies at First Lutheran Church in Havre during the The 91st Annual Swedish Meatball and Norwegian Lutefisk Dinner.
The event is set for Saturday, Feb. 1, from noon to 5 p.m. at the church at 303 Sixth Ave.
will see the return of Havre’s annual Norwegian Lutefisk and Swedish Meatball Dinner from noon to 5 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, after a year without due to COVID-19.
The event a mainstay event for decades, bringing people in the community together for a meal of Lutefisk, Swedish meatballs, boiled potatoes, lefsa, cranberriesh and coleslaw, with ice cream and sandbakkels.
The dinner costs $25 and people can order delivery or pickup meals at 406-265-5881.
The dinner has been an annual event with the only missed years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and during a renovation of First Lutheran in the 1980s..
People typically come to the dinner from Malta to Chester or even farther, with people calling from as far away as Billings to say they were coming..
It typically serves more than 400 people with about 300 pounds of lutefisk — significantly less than at it’s peak in the ‘50s and ‘60s when between 1,200 and 1,400 dinners.
Dozens of people typically work on the dinner stretching over a couple of weeks.
