It was a tough first full week of Frontier Conference play for the Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team
Last Thursday night. The Lights fell to nationally-ranked Montana Tech 82-56 in Butte.
Montana Tech pushed the lead in the first half to double digits. The Lights scrambled back cutting into the lead by seven. The Orediggers went on a 9-0 run to finish the first half going into halftime 40-24. The Orediggers pushed the lead in the second half outscoring the Lights 42-32.
The Lights were led by Cinque Maxwell who had 17 points on the night going 50 percent from the field. Raefe McEnroe added 11 points going 4-6 from the field.
The Orediggers were led by Michael Ure who was just shy of a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Ifeanyi Okeke added 16 points and eight rebounds.
Playing in the Armory Gymnasium last Saturday night, Northern fell to Rocky Mountain College by a score of 74-62 Rocky got off to a good start going on an 8-0 run. The Lights came back to tie the game up with 11:16 in the first half. The Bears hit a three right before half to for Rocky to take the lead by four going into halftime. The Battlin' Bears pushed the lead to 10 and kept a double-digit lead on the way to the win.
The Lights were led by Cinque Maxwell who had 13 points. Raefe McEnroe added 11 points going 5-9 from the field.
The Battlin' Bears were led by Jaylon Lee who had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jesse Owens added 14 points
The sweep dropped Northern to 0-3 in the Frontier, and 6-10 overall. The Lights travel to Providence tonight, then host Carroll College Saturday night in Havre.
