Marlene Shulund, born on July 2, 1955, in Havre, Montana, passed away on December 9, 2024, at 5:05 AM, surrounded by her loving family.
Marlene was the daughter of Pete and Mary Azure and the beloved middle child of eight siblings. She was a proud member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe and was given her Native name, “Angel Woman,” after her passing — a fitting tribute as she was an angel to many people in her life.
Family was central to Marlene’s life, and she created countless cherished memories with those she loved.
She is survived by her sisters Terry Fair, Evelyn Azure, Julie Nelson, and Lori Osgood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Pete Azure; her brother, Leon; her sisters Patricia Halvorson, Lois English, and Tammie Golden; her nephew Eric Halvorson; her mother-in-law, Carolyn Shulund; and her niece Stacey Azure.
Marlene was a mother to her daughters from her first marriage, Shontrell and Jessika. Her life took a beautiful turn when she was introduced to her lifelong partner, Dale Shulund, by his mother, Carolyn. Together, Marlene and Dale built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passions. Their family grew with the birth of their daughter, Nickie, completing their circle of love.
Marlene had a profound love for gardening, a passion she shared with Dale. The couple spent countless afternoons growing and tending to their harvest, never letting any of their produce go to waste. Their generosity was boundless, often donating and sharing their bounty with friends and the community. When not in the garden, Marlene and Dale could be found fishing, camping, or occasionally enjoying an afternoon at the casino, embracing life’s simple pleasures.
An exceptional cook, Marlene poured her heart into every meal she made, crafting dishes from scratch and finding joy in feeding those she loved. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and connection, where family and friends were always welcomed to enjoy her homemade meals.
Marlene’s life was defined by her appreciation for the small but significant moments. She found joy in dancing in her living room, helping those in need, and cherishing the beauty of nature. Above all, she treasured her time with her children and grandchildren, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever.
She leaves behind her children, Shontrell (Ryan) Anderson, Jessika, and Nickie (Trygg) Shulund; grandchildren, Tyler (Tori) Anderson with their son Andrew, and Alexis Anderson with her son Braylon. She also leaves behind her honorary children, Ally Doll with her son Rylan, and honorary grandchildren Lola Brown, and Stormie Neese.
Marlene’s legacy is one of kindness, love, and generosity. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her, leaving behind a world made brighter by her presence. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
