PAWS of Chinook receives AgWest Rural Community Grant

To be used for Winter Shed project

Press release

CHINOOK — PAWS of Chinook is pleased to announce it has been awarded $1,500 through AgWest Farm Credit’s Rural Community Grant program to be used towards its

winter shed project.

The funds granted to PAWS of Chinook will impact its current canine residents at the shelter by providing materials to renovate a shed that can be used during times of inclement weather.

“We are so honored to be awarded this grant from AgWest. Our shelter is currently over capacity with 5 of our 11 dogs lacking their own kennels” PAWS of Chinook Executive Director Alissa Hewitt said. “They have had access to the common area of the shelter to keep warm, but that has put a heavy strain on our propane bill. With this grant, we can purchase the remaining materials needed to repair, insulate, and finalize the renovation of the shed. We are so thankful to AgWest for recognizing this need and choosing us as a recipient of the grant.”

AgWest’s Rural Community Grants provide funds to non-profit organizations for projects that improve rural communities within Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. This includes efforts such as building or improving facilities; purchasing necessary equipment to facilitate a local program; and funding capital improvements which enhance a community’s infrastructure, viability and prosperity.

PAWS of Chinook is a private nonprofit 501c3 dog shelter in ChinookT. Incorporated in 1994, they saw a need to help control pet overpopulation in the area by assisting with the cost of spay and neuter procedures for residents who were unable to afford the cost. In 2006, the PAWS of Chinook shelter was built inside the Blaine County Fairgrounds and has been assisting with stray populations, spay/neuter assistance programs, vaccination clinics, and rehoming those in need.
