Big weekend for MSU-N wrestling in Great Falls

The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team got plenty of mat time, and racked up a ton of wins last weekend in the Great Falls.

Northern opened the two-day event in the Electric City with a 35-18 win over Northwest College in the Argo Duals.

After the victory, the Lights returned to the mat on Saturday for the Battle of the Rockies Open, a tournament that featured rival Providence, among other Northwest schools.

In that tournament, every MSU-N grappler that took the mat ended up on the podium, including Devin Crawford, who win the title at 174 pounds. Crawford beat an opponent from Snow College in the championship. Northern added another champion at 197 pounds as Austin Vanek beat North Idaho's Chandler Loveless in the final to complete his undefeated day.

In all, five MSU-n grapplers reached the finals, as Kolten Powers took second at 125 pounds, Justin Windauer was second at 157, Travis Weldner was second at 165 and Rylin Burns place second at 184.

Other Northern placers included, Caleb Morales at 141, Caeleb Ishmael at 149, Keegan Hanson at 157, Orion Thivierge at 174, A.j. Harris at 197 and Gabe Walker at 285.

MSU-N returns to the mat Dec. 19 when they wrestle at Southern Oregon, and Dec. 22 at the Reno T.O.C.
