The holiday celebrations kicked off last week inducing Thanksgiving community dinners and events through the weekend, with more to come.
Along with dinners Thursday, events went on through Black Friday and Saturday, including the Chinook Parade of Lights and Christmas Friday and the Havre highlight of Thanksgiving weekend, Santa Claus lighting the Community Christmas Tree in Town Square in Havre, Saturday.
Also starting last week, the Havre/Hill County Historic Preservation Commission released its 2024 historical Christmas ornament, this year featuring a Great Norther Railway locomotive on display at the Havre BNSF Railway depot. This coming weekend includes Santa returning to Havre Friday night, riding the Santa Train into the BNSF Railway depot in Havre
Friday also has the long-running Live Nativity at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church from 5-7 p.m. People are asked to drive through the alley to get to the Nativity to avoid traffic problems.
And Friday also has the premiere of Montana Actor’s Theatre’s production of a classic of the holiday season, “The Sound of Music.” See a related story at https://www.havredailynews.com/story/2024/12/05/local/mat-puts-on-the-sound-of-music-for-christmas/547114.html .
Saturday has with the favorite Montana Special Olympics Fundraiser the Subzero Superhero Polar Pluhge scheduled at 2 p.m., as well as the Wiinterfest Craft and vendor show at Havre's Holiday Village Mall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the H.Earl Clack Memorial Museum Dino Christmas from 1-3 p.m. Cookies and Books with Santa at the mall from 2-4 p.m.
And Harlem is holding its Christmas Stroll, featuring vendors, activities for children, multiple food stations and Santa Claus Thursday, Dec. 12, from 4-8 p.m. at various downtown locations.
