Corrective surgery taking Havre 10-year-old to Seattle

Eagle Doney and Tracy Day Child have to take their son, Lawrence, to Seattle, but not for a pleasure trip.

Lawrences suffers from fibrous dysplasia, which is causing growths in his face, which will likely lead to affect his his vision and could impact the protections of his eyes, as well as causing a growth in his face.

Lawrence, A 10-year-old fifth-grader, said the biggest impact for him right now is, "Kids are bullying me."

Doney said something needs to be done before it causes serious damage.

"It's not cancerous, it's still a tumor," Doney said, "It's going to make one eye higher than the other, and his vision will be offset from there. As far as they know, for right now, it's growing towards the bone that protects the eye."

The procedure Lawrence will undergo is called orbital decompression and contour resection of orbital/zygomatic/maxilla fibrous/dysplasia and will be performed in Seattle.

Lawrence said his younger sisters, Harmony, 9, and Journey, almost 5-months-old have been a huge support for their brother.

Harmony said she is "supporting big brother" the best she can.

The family is looking for some help offsetting the expenses.

A Taco John's fundraiser was held Dec. 2 to help raise money for expenses, and Doney and Day Child have opened an account at Independence Bank for medical funds. Any donations can be placed in this account by letting the bank tellers know it is for Lawrence.
