Lights swept at Dickinson tourney

It’s been a rough preseason for the young Montana State University-Northern men’s basketball team. And things didn’t get any better last weekend in Dickinson, North Dakota.

Last Friday, the Lights fell to Valley City State, The first was close until the Vikings went on a 8-0 run to take the lead by 10. The Lights battled back to tie up the game with 1:05 left in the first half. Valley hit a couple shots to take the game by one going into halftime. Valley city pushed the lead to 12 after the half. The Lights cut into the lead by four, but couldn't quite get the win.

The Lights dropped a game at Dickinson State on Saturday. The Blue Hawks went on a 10-0 run to start the game. The Lights had a spark from the bench, as they dug into the lead cutting it to four. Dickinson battled back and pushed the lead back to double digits. Northern cut the lead to nine going into halftime (36-27). Dickinson had a comfortable lead in the beginning of the second half. The Lights battled cutting the lead to five, but the Blue Hawks hit some tough shots to win the game.

The Lights were led by Anthony Mendez, who went 5-6 from the field with 14 points. Cinque Maxwell went 6-9 from the field with 13 points. Leon Sayers IV added 11 points.

The Lights fell to 1-6, and will return home to host Saint Mary’s at 3 p.m. this Saturday.
