Please call us at 406-265-5464 for further information regarding this position.

Open Enrollment: Open enrollment runs from October 15, to December 7, 2024. Those with Medicare or a drug plan, should take the opportunity to review their healthcare needs for the upcoming year and determine if changes to their current coverage are necessary. Plan costs change each year, so everyone with a Medicare health or a drug plan, should check to make sure their plan still meets their needs and budget. Be sure to drop down to the Senior Center and pick-up a preregistration form.

Havre Senior Advisory Board: Havre Senior Center is also looking for more members to add to our Advisory Board. If anyone is interested in helping us, please call 406-265-5464 and speak to Heather Sinclair. We would like to choose someone from the Rudyard/Gildford area. Our Board meets once every two weeks in the Havre Senior Center at 1:00pm. Later it will not have to meet quite so often, it will be more like monthly. Our next board meeting will be December 3rd, 2024.

Osteoporosis: osteoporosis is a condition that weakens bones. It’s often thought of as a disease that affects women since it’s more common in women that in men. But men can also develop osteoporosis, especially when they reach age 65 and older. Osteoporosis is a “silent” disease. It often has no symptoms until it is so severe that you break a bone. It is one of the major causes of bone fractures in older men. These fractures most often arise in the bones of the hip, spine, and wrist, but can affect any bone. A fracture after age 50 is an important signal that a person may have osteoporosis. Unfortunately, men are less likely that women to be evaluated for osteoporosis after a fracture. Men also are less likely to get osteoporosis treatment. But treatment strategies are the same for both men and women. These include medications and lifestyle changes. Men and women have similar risk factors for osteoporosis. People who have chronic diseases like diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis are at increased risk. So are those who smoke or drink too much alcohol. You can take steps to prevent osteoporosis. Weight-bearing exercise is a great way to strengthen bones, especially if you start at a young age. Exercise can also help prevent falls that lead to fractures. Eating a well-balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D can help, too

Would You Like to be a Volunteer at The Senior Center? Right now we are looking for a volunteer to answer phones at the front desk. We are very thankful for the many volunteers who help us daily and also during our special Events. If you have a little extra time, we could sure use your help. We are finding ourselves a little short on volunteers now that we have opened our doors after closing due to the pandemic. If you would like to share your time and talents, please give us a call at 265-5464 to let us know. There are many different volunteer opportunities, maybe one just right for you, give us a call.

Transportation: is still being handled by the North Central Montana Transit. This change seems to be going very well. If you need a ride call 406-265-4762. They would appreciate a 24-hour notice for local rides and a 48-hour notice for Great Falls trips.

SCAMS: Scam Calls are still widespread. Text messages and emails are also becoming popular. Do not respond to any of them. Do not even open them, just delete them. Medicare isn’t issuing gold cards. Talk to someone in the community before you consider a reverse mortgage.

Commodities: If you are interested in receiving commodities, we still have a few select openings. You can sign up at the Senior Center, fill out an application and find out if your income falls within the guidelines. If you qualify, you can receive commodities once a month. You do have to come to Senior Center to pick them up.
