Bears moving on to State Six-Man semifinals

Another Saturday, and the Box Elder Bears are one game closer to playing for a state football championship.

In the Class C Six-Man playoffs last Saturday in Box Elder, the Bears outlasted Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine in a wild shootout, 74-64.

The Bears stayed ahead for much of the high-scoring game as they advanced to the state semifinals.

Box Elder, which won Northern Division regular season, will have to face a perennial Six-Man powerhouse with a berth in the state championship game on the line. This Saturday, Box Elder hosts Hot Springs at 1 p.m.

The other half of the Six-Man semifinals will also feature a Northern Division team, it just won't be the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks. Last Saturday saw the Hawks fall to rival Centerville in a heartbreaker, 44-40 in Chester.

Trailing 38-25 in the fourth quarter, CJI scored back-to-back touchdowns, but the comeback fell short as the Miners advanced to take on Bridger in the other semifinal this Saturday.

Last Saturday was also the end of the line for the Fort Benton Longhorns, who lost to Scobey in the quarterfinals, 36-20, while the Chinook Sugarbeeters also were eliminated from the Class C playoffs after losing to Drummond-Phillipsburgh 28-6.
