James P. Tautges, 85, passed away due to natural causes at his Timbercreek residence on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Jim was born on January 18, 1939, in Havre to Peter and Gladys (Armstrong) Tautges. He was raised on his family’s farm south of Havre with his sister. Jim attended school in Havre, graduating from Havre Central. He then returned to the farm, where he cared for his family’s home and land until 1998, when he sold to his neighbor, and moved to town with his new wife, Shirley. There, Jim worked for Hill County Electric until his retirement in 2012.
Jim was a kind, intelligent man who enjoyed walking and collecting artifacts along the way. He was very interested in history, and continued to learn about it until his death. He donated many historical items to Havre Beneath the Streets. Jim loved taking pictures, and he and Shirley were frequent visitors to Char’s Restaurant. Most importantly, Jim was a man of faith. He had a personal relationship with his Lord, and he loved to talk about Him and share His love with everyone around him. Sunday services were the highlight of his week.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Gladys Tautges, and his sister, Dorothy Schubert.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, of Havre; stepchildren, David (Tamara), Gerald, and Linda Myrum; friend whom he referred to “as close to a daughter as I’ll ever have”, Karen Gregoire-Myers; and many friends.
Jim’s request for memorial donations were to the Ark Church, Bear Paw Volunteer Fire Department, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
