Open Enrollment: Open enrollment runs from October 15, to December 7, 2024. Those with Medicare or a drug plan, should take the opportunity to review their healthcare needs for the upcoming year and determine if changes to their current coverage are necessary. Plan costs change each year, so everyone with a Medicare health or a drug plan, should check to make sure their plan still meets their needs and budget. Be sure to drop down to the Senior Center and pick-up a preregistration form.
Recognizing RSV: It is more than the common cold. COVID-19 lessenes how often we get sick from many other viruses. But one common virus has been on the rise this year. It’s called respiratory syncytial virus has been on the rise. RSV is usually more common in the fall, winter, and spring. But this year, infections have surged over the summer. This is likely because of the lifting of COVID-19 precautions, like masking and social distancing. Almost everyone catches RSV before the age of 2. It’s one of the most common causes of illness in children. Unlike many other viruses that infect the lungs, you can catch RSV over and over again. You can be infected on average every three to 10 years. RSV mimics the common cold, like a runny nose, loss of appetite, and coughing or wheezing. Symptoms usually stay mild in older children and adults. But some people are at risk of more serious disease. These include infants, older adults, and people with a weakened immune system. Some people develop pneumonia or inflammation in the lungs from RSV. For mild cases, over the counter fever or pain relievers may help reduce the symptoms. But people with more serious cases may need treatment in a hospital. RSV spreads easily between people. Researchers are working on a vaccine for RSV. Until then we must work with good hygiene, it is the best way to avoid getting RSV.

Would You Like to be a Volunteer at The Senior Center? Right now we are looking for a volunteer to answer phones at the front desk. We are very thankful for the many volunteers who help us daily and also during our special Events. If you have a little extra time, we could sure use your help. We are finding ourselves a little short on volunteers now that we have opened our doors after closing due to the pandemic. If you would like to share your time and talents, please give us a call at 265-5464 to let us know. There are many different volunteer opportunities, maybe one just right for you, give us a call.
Transportation: is still being handled by the North Central Montana Transit. This change seems to be going very well. If you need a ride call 406-265-4762. They would appreciate a 24-hour notice for local rides and a 48-hour notice for Great Falls trips.
SCAMS: Scam Calls are still widespread. Text messages and emails are also becoming popular. Do not respond to any of them. Do not even open them, just delete them. Medicare isn’t issuing gold cards. Talk to someone in the community before you consider a reverse mortgage.
Commodities: If you are interested in receiving commodities, we still have a few select openings. You can sign up at the Senior Center, fill out an application and find out if your income falls within the guidelines. If you qualify, you can receive commodities once a month. You do have to come to Senior Center to pick them up.
