Health Advisories on Havre public water supply lifted

Press release

City of Havre PWS ID # MT0000524

11 October 2024

During the month of February 2024, the City of Havre Water Treatment Plant experienced failures in filtration treatment and disinfection. On the 19th of April 2024, the City of Havre public water supply issued a boil water advisory due to a giardiasis outbreak. This boil water advisory was downgraded to a health advisory on the 29th of May 2024. This health advisory was to remain in effect until the public water supply distribution system was flushed, additional monitoring was completed, and the Havre Water Treatment Plant could demonstrate consistent treatment that meets minimum treatment requirements. The city of Havre public water supply has been able to meet these requirements. This health advisory is now being lifted.

On the 4th of September 2024, following a treatment plant upset, the turbidity of the filtered water at the Havre Water Treatment Plant spiked to over 5.0 NTU. This was above the standard of 1.0 NTU. Due to these high levels of turbidity, there was an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms. This health advisory was to remain in effect until the Havre Water Treatment Plant demonstrated consistent treatment that meets minimum treatment requirements. The Havre Water Treatment Plant demonstrated consistent treatment that meets minimum treatment requirements for the month of September following the treatment plant upset. This health advisory is now being lifted effective immediately.
