Havre wins thriller at East Helena

After missing two games with an injury, Blue Pony senior running back Tate Nelson literally lifted Havre High to a huge win Friday night at East Helena.

Nelson scored four touchdowns, including the game-winner as the Blue Ponies topped upstart East Helena 33-28.

The Vigilantes have been one of the surprise teams of Class A this season, but the Ponies came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, as Nelson scored on runs of 4, 52, and yards, and he added a 26-yard touchdown scamper to close out the first half as Havre led by 20 points, while Nelson finished with 192 yards rushing.

But, the Ponies also needed their defense to hold of East Helena. The Vigilantes stormed back in the second half, and with just over a minute left, they had the ball and marched down deep into Blue Pony territory. From there though, HHS made a huge stand, and iced the game when Chris Bell and Gage Chapman forced an EH fumble that Bell recovered, giving Havre the opportunity to run out the clock.

The win gave the Ponies a 4-2 record in the Eastern A, and are now just a victory shy of clinching a playoff berth yet again.

"One step closer," Havre head coach Jake Eldridge told 406 Sports after the game.

The Ponies can take another huge step forward when the Ponies host fourth-ranked Laurel this Friday night at 7 p.m. at Blue Pony Stadium.
