Skylights fall twice on the volleyball court

The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-1 setbacks this past week.

Last Thursday saw the Skylights drop a 3-1 decision at Carroll College in Helena.

The Skylights fell to the Fighting Saints in four sets (25-23, 25-12, 25-27, and 25-20). In the first set it was a battle until the end. The Saints finished the set with five straight points to win though. Carroll took over the second set early and never looked back. The Skylights then won a crazy third set, but In the fourth set, the match went back and forth until Carroll went on a 6-1 run to take the match.

The Skylights were led by Alana Graves with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .275. Jessa Chvilicek had 10 kills. Baily Egan led the team in digs with 29. Emily Feller led the Skylights with 24 assists. The Saints were led by Elizabeth Heuiser with 14 kills hitting a percent of .333. Julia Carr led the team in digs with 70, as Hannah Schweikert led in assists with 48.

Back in the Armory Gymnasium on Saturday, Northern lost 3-1 to the 15th-ranked Providence Argos. The Skylights lost to the Argos in four sets (25-27, 25-19, 25-17, and 26-24). The Skylights went on a 5-0 run to push the lead first-set lead to 15-12. Providence came back and scored four points to take the lead back 21-19. Northern put together a couple smaller runs to take the first set.

The Argos took the lead early 20-10 in there second. The Skylights went on a 7-0 run, but it wasn't enough to take the second set. Providence had another good start taking the third set early lead 15-6. Northern got within three points, but the Argos finished off the set 6-1. The fourth set was an exciting battle, as the Skylights came from behind to tie the set at 19-19. But the Argos went on a run 7-3 to take the match.

The Skylights were led by Alana Graves with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .393. Jessalyn Chvilicek had 10 kills. Baily Egan led the team in digs with 24. Macee Murphy led the Skylights with 22 assists. The Argos were led by Nina Janjic with 20 kills hitting a percent of .400. Sadie Lott led the team in digs with 29, as Bella Thompson led in assists with 49.

Northern is now 6-8 overall this season, and 1-4 in the Frontier. MSU-N travels to Montana Tech tonight.
