Man arrested after high-speed pursuit on multiple charges and felony warrant

Hill County Sheriff's Office said in a release today that Kolten T. Demontiney of Billings, homeless, 21 was arrested on multiple charges Tuesday night after a high-speed pursuit.

Demontiney was charged with criminal endangerment, motor vehicle theft, obstructing a peace officer or other public servant, resisting arrest, fleeing or eluding a peace officer, reckless driving, speeding, other traffic crime, stop sign violation, operating a motor vehicle without valid registration, driving without a driver's license and was served a state District Court warrant.

The sheriff"s office release said Havre police started a vehicle pursuit on the Red Dodge Charger Demontiney was driving at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Havre police ended their pursuit after the Charger turned south on U.S. Highway 87.

A Hill County Sheriff's deputy who had been in the Box Elder area intercepted the Charger and noted it had no license plates and attempted a traffic stop on U.S. 87 near Laredo Road. The driver refursed to stop, the release said.

The pursuit continued south on Laredo Road at high speeds, then the driver initiated a u-turn and started driving north on Laredo Road.

Another deputy had deployed spike strips and the front driver's and passenger's side tires were deflated.

The driver continued to the Laredo housing area, where the driver and a passenger got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, the release said.

A deputy was able to catch up to the driver, who resisted arrest, and the deputy used a taser and arrested him.

The driver was identified as Demontiney, and investigation showed a felony warrant for his arrest was issued out of Yellowstone County and that the Charger had been stolen.

The passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was released at the scene after it was determined she had not participated in any crimes.

Demontiney is being held at Hill County Detention Center on all the charges.
