Ron was born September 24, 1934, in Havre to Lloyd “Abe” and Helen (Woronik) Beatty. He was raised on the farm, graduating from Havre High School in 1952. Ron went on to graduate from Northern Montana College in 1954, and in 1965, he married Leona Schnitzmeier. The couple made their home on the family farm north of Havre, where they raised their four children.

In 1996, Ron and Leona purchased a home in Havre and moved to town.

Ron enjoyed hunting in the Missouri River Breaks, fishing in Beaver Creek and Fort Peck, reading, and playing cards. He and Leona enjoyed camping in the Bear Paws in their fifth wheel, casino trips to Nevada, and attending the Norsk Hostfest in North Dakota in the fall. He had the best, most unbelievable, but true, hunting and fishing camp stories. You wouldn’t believe what those outdoorsmen could get themselves into.

He and Leona also traveled to visit Ukrainian churches in Saskatchewan, Canada, so Ron could research his heritage. Over the years, Ron served on the Bellevue School Board and on the St. Joe Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a lifetime member of the Havre Eagles Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Helen Beatty, and his sister, Betty Boadle.

Ron is survived by his wife, Leona Beatty of Havre; children, Laurie (Scott) Guest of Battle Ground, WA, Shelly (Daryn) Andersen of Plentywood, Amy (Troy) Bruce of Billings and Bryan (Christa) Beatty of Havre; seven grandchildren, Brittany (Justin) Lassila, Allie (Ben) Gaarsland, Nicholas and Christopher Andersen, Brennen (Nicole) and Bailey Bruce and Taylor Beatty; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Gaarsland and Camryn Lassila, all who affectionately called him “Bumpa,” and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
