Park Board discusses new lodge

Hill County Park Board met Monday to discuss cabin business and progress with the new Camp Kiwanis lodge in Beaver Creek Park.

The board discussed projections that new lodge is expected to be completed during the summer of 2026.

Construction to demolish and replace the lodge is expected to begin next summe. The new lodge will be built on the foot print the Beaver Lodge at Camp Kiwanis, which has been deteriorating and leading to several years of planning on how to replace it.

The board decided that demolition of the lodge and building a new one was more cost effective than continuing to repair the existing structure.

Transfer of ownership and adding co-owners to cabins was on the agenda for Monday's meeting. The board has decided some new more specific compliance rules need to be put into the property owner's policy packets.

Park board Chair Jeff Jensen brought up the issue Monday of how to better notify about and enforce these new rules and specifications.

Beaver Creek Park Superintendent Chad Edgar said it was "a very smooth summer, as far as everybody complying ... Park conditions are still dry, but we are way better than average for this time of year."

"Kick out went smooth for cattle," Edgar added, "Should have a few more coming on over the next couple weeks."

Cattle are brought onto the park on grazing leases starting the day after Labor Day.

The park currently has approximately over two thousand head of cattle present, with car-crash fatalities already happening, including two being hit in one night.

Edgar said things have been going well.

"I had a very good crew this year, for as busy as we were," Edgar said, "We got all these vehicles we plan on selling this month... we will see all the bids, and we take the highest bid."

The public can contact the park for more information regarding the vehicles that are for sale.

The next Hill County Park Board meeting will be held at Beaver Creek Perk Coffee Shop Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
