Blue Pony football, volleyball finds early success

The Havre High football and volleyball teams opened the new season on the road, and it was a good weekend for the Ponies.

The Havre High football team blasted the Hardin Bulldogs 55-6 last Friday night to open Eastern A play.

With the win, head coach Jake Eldridge's team begins the Eastern A schedule 1-0, and now, the Ponies will prepare to open their home schedule.

And it's a big home opener for the Ponies as they host arch rival Billings Central. The Rams (1-0) are once again one of the team's to beat in Class A, but, behind a Havre offense led by quarterback Griffin Terry, running back Tate Nelson, standout Tre Gary and a master offensive line led by senior Gage Chapman, the Ponies appear poised to make a run at the Rams Friday night.

Kickoff at Blue Pony Stadium is set for 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, the HHS volleyball team also had a big first weekend as the Ponies played the Class A Tip-Off at East Helena.

Last Friday saw Havre split with Billings Central, split with Park, split with Hardin, sweep East Helena and sweep Laurel. Havre ended the first day of the tourney with a loss to Lockwood.

On Saturday, the Ponies, of head coach Cassie Krueger, swept Sidney and Glendive, got swept by Lewistown, and split with Miles City.

With the first tournament of the preseason out of the way, the Blue Ponies get to come home as they host the Havre Tip-Off Tournament Friday and Saturday at the HHS gymnasium.
