Pony golf teams teeing up a new season next week

It's that time. The time for high school fall sports to begin, and kicking off the Havre High fall season is the Blue Pony golf teams.

Under the guidance of veteran head coach Dennis Murphy, the Blue Pony boys and girls varsity golf teams get their season started on Monday in Great Falls.

The schedule begins with HHS traveling to play in the two-day Class AA Great Falls Invite Monday at Meadowlark Country Club and Tuesday at Eagle Falls.

Havre's schedule is always challenging as the Ponies host the Havre Invitational Aug. 24 at Prairie Farms Golf Course, while the Ponies travel to Shelby for the Browning Invitational Aug. 23. The Ponies then have a break until the Jawbone Match Play Sept. 3 in Harlowton. Havre's big stretch then starts with the Glendale and Sidney Invitationals Sept. 12-13, as well as the East Helena Invite Sept. 17. The Ponies wrap up the regular season at the Billings Central Invite Sept. 19 and the Laurel Invite Sept. 20.

The postseason begins with the Eastern A Divisional Sept. 27 at Laurel, while the Class A State Tournament Oct. 4-5 in Polson.

The Pony boys will feature returners such as Matt Huse, Callen Stoner and Noah Barrett among others, while Brenna Hansen and Callle Bebee are among the top returners for the HHS girls.
