A few weeks back we had an incredible experience … yes, right here in Havre!
After reading the press release on the completion of a new trail in our community by the Havre Trails group, we decided we had to find a date to experience this trail. On a Sunday morning, we headed towards Saddle Butte to embark on a new trail. The hike didn’t disappoint. The view of the Bear Paws was beautiful. The rolling fields of Clear Creek laying below was a view we had never seen. The landscape was dotted with flowers and the rock formations were interesting. We continued the hike to the top, ending on the horn of the saddle, thus Saddle Butte. What a spectacular view we discovered. We took a 360 degree video while taking in the amazing views to share our experience with others.
Growing up in Havre, Saddle Butte was always there. One couldn’t drive around town and not see the “Butte”. Whether coming in from the east or west on Highway 2, this iconic stand of nature dominates the skyline. There is now a new found love and meaning for Saddle Butte after completing the hike that beautiful Sunday in July.
The foresight of the Havre Trails group to see a vision and find the resources for the “Bullhook Butte Hiking Trail”, needs to be commended. Coupled with the kindness and generosity of Rick and Patty Lieberg granting public access to the trail through their property. As with all community projects, it takes a group pulling in the same direction. Thank you, Havre Trails for your continued work to develop trails for all of us to enjoy and thank you Rick and Patty for your willingness to share access to the trail.
Trails enrich the quality of life for our community. We need to be thankful for the Havre Trails Group and their dedication to providing trails that make discovering the great outdoors. Their work provides an opportunity for families, friends and visitors to explore nature while enjoying a great hiking trail.
