Northstars struggle in what was a busy week

The Havre Northstars American Legion baseball team was back in Canada this past week, and the Northstars dropped two games to the Lethbridge Miners.

The Northstars fell 11-9 in game one. Jevin Jenkins gave Havre a two-run home run to left field to give the Northstars a 2-0 lead. It was his second home run of the season. Two batters later, Chason Mader doubled in Logan Kinsella and then Tommy Lewis immediately tripled in Mader. Quinn Elliot then proceeded to single in Lewis. They would score again in the third inning on an RBI double by Terek Shipp.

Lethbridge answered in the fourth inning, putting up seven runs. The Miners batted around but their lead would not last long as Ezra Pyle sacrifice bunted to score Colter Solomon and then Tyson Brandon tripled home Shipp to make it 8-7 Havre. Lethbridge scored three more times. The Northstars got one back in the next frame and even had the tying run on base, but couldn't come through at the end.

Game two was a thriller that saw Havre fall 5-4.The teams traded at-bats until the third inning when the Miners scored three times. Havre answered in the fourth inning with Mader providing a two-run single to score Jenkins and Kinsella. The Northstars also scored multiple runs in the fifth inning on sacrifices, but were unable to push across the tying and go-ahead runs. In the seventh, Havre got a runner on in the form of Shipp. He was able to steal second base, but a pop out and lineout ended the game.

Havre returned home to host the Medicine Hat Knights in a Northern District doubleheader Thursday night at Legion Field.

In game one, the Northstars dominated in a 13-2 win. While Havre's bats were electric all game long, Quinn Elliott dominated on the mound throwing five innings of one-hit ball as the Northstars rolled to the win.

Unfortunately, Havre couldn't get the home sweep as they fell to the Knights 9-7 in extra innings in the nightcap.

Ezra Pyle, Chason Mader, Jevin Jenkins and Terek Shipp were big at the plate for the Northstars, but the Knights got the extra-innings win.

To wrap up another b busy week, the Northstars played a doubleheader against first-place Vauxhall on Sunday at Legion Field.

Havre lost the first game 7-3, with Chason Mader and Ezra Pyle, as well as Terek Shipp starring at the plate.

The second game didn't go well as Havre fell 17-6 in five innings. Tyson Brandon had three RBIs and a triple in the loss for Havre, as the Northstars fell to 22-21 on the season. 

Havre is home to host the Great Falls Chargers on Friday night.
