Scott Purdy, a Gildford, Montana, farmer, was born October 30, 1953, in Havre, Montana, and died on June 30, 2024 in Salt Lake City.
He was educated at Gildford public schools until becoming a member of the first graduating class of the new consolidated KG school. After getting a degree in Business Finance from Montana State University, he decided he wanted to be a farmer after all and eventually took over the family farm, including the original Purdy homestead north of Gildford and Kremlin.
Scott was the strong, silent type. Stoic, calm in all situations, and always someone you could count on. A lifelong learner, he read widely in history and enjoyed traveling to historically interesting places, including Turkey, the Philippines, and the American Southwest and Mexico. In 1978 he was a member of the Montana Friendship Force delegation to South Korea.
He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Purdy of Gildford; brother Todd; sisters, Taryn and Jana; brother-in-law, Tom Mital, and numerous cousins.
His father, Robert Purdy, and infant brother Danny preceded him.
We are grateful to his care team at the University of Utah Hospital’s Burn Center and the organ donor connect team for their excellent and compassionate care.
