A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 87 near Box Elder at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday resulted in the death of one woman with two other people taken to the hospital.

The name of the person killed, a 74-year-old Havre woman, was not available by the time this story was filed.

The Montana Highway Patrol crash fatality report said the two vehicles, a Ford F-150 and a Chevrolet Tahoe, were northbound on U.S. Highway 87 near Mile Marker 94 at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

A Box Elder man, who was driving the Ford, failed to properly signal a turn, the report said.

The Chevrolet, driven by a 65-year-old Havre man with the 74-year-old Havre woman as a passenger, turned into the southbound lane in an attempt to avoid the Ford, but still hit it.

Both vehicles went off the roadway, the report said. All occupants were taken to the hospital where the Havre woman succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
