Hill County 4-H is set for a big 2024 Great Northern Fair, with some changes including a major shift in time for the annual market sale.
“The biggest change is Sunday. July 21, the livestock sale will start at 11 a.m.,” Montana State University Extension Hill County Agent Colleen Pegar said.
Pegar and Hill County Extension Agent Kati Purkett said Hill County 4-H has grown a bit, with several new members and a good set of displays and animals for the fair.
Pegar said the livestock sale will feature 36 beef, 39 swine, nine sheep and two goats.
The shift in the livestock sale time was to try to make things a little better both for the animals, the 4-H’er and the buyers Hill County Extension Agent Kati Purkett said.
“It was kind of a decision to get those animals on the road a little bit sooner,” she said. “We’re still going to be in the heat of the day a little bit. … We’re still going to be in the heat of the day, but will try to get out a little bit to make sure they get to the processors in a timely manner.
Pegar said if anyone has questions on the schedule or the livestock sale or want to preregister to buy at the livestock sale they can stop by the Extension Office on the bottom floor of the Hill County Courthouse or call 046-400-2333. She said they have packets at the extension office.
Purkett said the indoor displays all will be set in the new 4-H Chuckwagon, and she and Pegar invited people to come in to the air-conditioned, which has some new menu entries as well as the old savorites, “and get a cold beverage and check things out.
The activities start Sunday, July 14, at 10 a.m. with the fair setup. All 4-H members, leaders and parents are expected to participate and will meet in the Chuckwagon or the Bigger Better Barn.
Tuesday starts with the Chuckwagon opening at 8 a.m. and interviews, with activities set throughout the week.
