Three Blue Ponies to play in softball all-star tournament

A trio of Havre Blue Pony softball players have been named to the Veterans Memorial Softball Classic, which will take place later this month in Belgrade.

For the second straight year, Havre will have three representatives, and it will be the same three girls representing the Blue Ponies as center fielder Jersi Morse, catcher Camille Keeley, and pitcher Elle Verploegen will be playing..

The Veterans Memorial Softball Classic is a two-day tournament composed of five teams to represent each branch of the military. Each team is named in memory of a service member.

Last year, Keeley and Verploegen were on the same team. This time around, the players have been moved to different teams.

Keeley is on Team Navy, which is named for Robert Mylan, a Fire Controlman Third Class who was buried at sea during World War II. Verploegen and Morse will be on the Coast Guard team, memorialized in the name of Nathan Bruckenthal, who died during a mission in the Iraq War.

The 2024 Veterans Memorial Softball Classic will take place July 26-27 at the Belgrade Softball Complex.
