Young Havre man killed in Glacier County car crash

An 18-year-old Havre man was killed last Thursday in a one-car crash in Glacier County.

By the Tuesday filing deadline for this story, Glacier County coroner had not responded to requests from Havre Weekly Chronicle for the name of the Havre man.

The Havre man was a passenger in the Cadillac Escalade that crashed.

The incident report said information about the driver was unknown at the time of the report being filed.

The report lists the crash as occurring 6:17 a.m. Thursday, June 27, on U.S. Highway 89 with Browning the nearest city.

The Escalade was northbound on Highway 89 when it began negotiating a left-hand curve, the report said. It made a sharp turn to the left and exited the highway.

While turning counter-clockwise, the Escalade slid down an embankment and crashed into a creek where it came to rest.

While the vehicle was sliding down the embankment, the passenger was tossed from the vehicle, hitting the ground and sustaining fatal injuries, the report said.

Speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash, the report said.

The investigation is pending and driver information is currently unknown, the report concluded.
