Press release
Havre Fire Department released a message reminding people to use fireworks safely and legally.
“Summer means picnics, barbecues, parades and fireworks displays, especially around the Fourth of July. Summer also means an increase in injuries from backyard grills, bonfires and fireworks,” the release said.
The release said the fire department advises people that the best way to enjoy the Fourth of July is to watch a public fireworks display conducted by professionals, but if people plan to use fireworks they need to use caution and follow the City of Havre ordinances for the use of fireworks in the city limits.
1. Fireworks may be discharged from July 2 through July 4 from 8 a.m. to midnight.
2. Not all fireworks are allowed. Skyrockets, Roman candles and bottle rockets are excluded, as well as any other fireworks not allowed by the State of Montana.
3. Children 7 and younger must be in direct supervision of a parent or guardian.
4. The discharge of fireworks in city park is not allowed/
5. Anyone leaving debris from discharged fireworks will be cited for littering.
The release said other safety measures also will keep people and their community safe.
• Use fireworks outdoors only.
• Always have water on hand — a hose or buckets of water.
• Only use fireworks as intended. Do not alter them or combine them.
• Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and soak the dud in a bucket of water.
• Adults should supervise children.
• Keep unused fireworks away from firing areas.
• Never have any portion of the body directly over a firework while lighting it.
• Observe local laws.
• Use common sense when using fireworks.
