Lights Cross Country Inks North Star's Carter Campbell

New Montana State University-Northern Head Cross Country Coach Deborah Callahan has announced the signing of Carter Campbell from Rudyard to join the cross country and distance track program in the fall.

"I'm very excited that Carter is joining our running team,” said Coach Callahan. "He has a great attitude, a unbelievable work ethic and understands the importance of academics. Carter's passion for teamwork showed his athleticism to participation in multi events which helped take the North Start Boys' team to a second-place finish at the 2024 District track meet."

In high school, he ran track and field. Campbell had a personal record of a 10:47 for a 3,200, 4:47 for 1,600, and 2:04 for the 800. He took second place at districts this year. In 2022, he took fifth place at state in the 800.

"We look forward to watching him grow at Northern and his next level of running which includes cross country,” Callahan said.

Campbell is the son of Brian and Elizabeth Campbell.  He plans on studying Wildlife Biology at MSU-Northern.

"Carter had been by my side with the track team since he could walk,” Brian Campbell said. "The transition father-son  to coach-athlete was easy.”

When asked why he chose Northern he replied, "So that I can continue to participate in competitive sports, and it is close to home."
