HHS girls win Eastern A track title, boys finish fourth

The Havre High girls dominated the Eastern A track and field championships last weekend in Laurel. The Ponies scored 128 points to win the team title, while the HHS boys scored 59 points and finished fourth.

Now, all state qualifiers will advance to this weekend's State A Track Meet, also in Laurel.

On the girls side, Havre Kaydence Reiter and Macy Brandon dominated the sprints. Reiter won both the 100 and 200 meters at divisionals, while Brandon finished third in both races. Not to be outdone, Brandon also won the 400 meters for head coach Kari Filius.  Frehsman Ashlyn Ford did well in the distances. She placed fifth in the 800 meters and fourth int he 1,600, while Hailey Gingery was sixth. Gingery also finished sixth in the 3,200.

It was also a huge meet for senior Kyanna Jarvis, who won the 100-meter hurdles and finished fourth in the 300 hurdles. Jarvis capped her meet with a win in the high jump as well. 

In the relay races, the team of Macee May, Brandon, Jarvis and Reiter won the 4x100, while Brandon, Ford, Jarvis and Reiter captured the 4x400.

In the field, the Havre girls got a third place from Roma Gum in the javelin, while Taylor Leeds took second in the pole vault. May also had a huge weekend for Havre as she finished first in the long jump and second in the triple jump.

The Havre boys had plenty of individual highlights as well. Brayden Kimberling took third for Havre in the 100 meters, before winning gold in the 200. Senior Caleb Tomac placed third in the 800 meters and fourth int the 1,600, while Mason Gregoire finished sixth in the 3,200.

The Pony boys also got a gold medal from Jacob Herring in the 300 hurdles, while the relay team of Brisbin Reiter, Michael Emge, Carson Harris and Kimberling finished second in the 4x100. The team of Shane Patcsil, Tomac, Trayden Riley and Herring also took second in the 4x400.

In the field, Tommy Lewis took sixth in the shot put for the Ponies, while Herring was fourth in the javelin.

Now, after an exciting divisional meet, all the Blue Pony boys and girls who qualified will compete in the Class A State Meet Friday and Saturday in Laurel.
