Havre High softball comes up short at state

The Havre High softball team had to fight weather and tough competition as last weekend's Class A state tournament in Billings.

The Blue Ponies lost their opening game Friday 5-2 to Hamilton, then, they were eliminated by Frenchtown 10-0.

Havre had seven hits in game one, including the game's opening run by Rachel Jette after she knocked Jersi Morse on a single. Hamilton scored four times off Havre's Elle Verploegen in the fifth inning and tacked on one more insurance run in the sixth. Verploegen had another dominant performance in the loss, recording 13 strikeouts.

The Blue Ponies then took on the Frenchtown Lady Broncs, in the first loser-out game. Unfortunately the Ponies fell to the Lady Broncs ending their season. Frenchtown crossed the plate three times in the first inning and then put up four runs in the third, followed by two runs in the fourth before walking it off in the fifth. Jette got the start for the Ponies and also had Havre's only hit of the game.

With the two losses at state, Havre ended they year with an 18-9 overall record.
