For the fifth time in the last 20 years, the Chinook girls tennis team is back on top of the Class B-C ranks.
Last weekend in Missoula, the Sugarbeeters used a balanced lineup to win the Class B-C girls state championship, edging out Loyola for first in the girls team race, collecting 32 points to 29 for the Breakers. The Sugarbeeters did not have any champions, but Rilee Molyneaux and Mya Berreth finished second and third, respectively, in singles.
Ava Bellamah piled up a majority of the team points for the Breakers in winning the singles championship. She did not drop a set all season and steamrolled past Molyneaux in the singles final, 6-0, 6-2. Berreth was a star runner-up a season ago.
Chinook also got several points from its top doubles team to help push the Beeters past Loyola for the championship.
Chester-Joplin-Inverness' top doubles duo of Hawks and Wickum also reached the podium in girls doubles.
