Pony thinclads finish strong, head to divisional

The Havre High track and field teams have officially reached the postseason. But before they got there, the Blue Ponies had one final meet.

Last Saturday, HHS took part in the Nelson Thomas ABC Meet in Polson, against all of the Western A.

And once again, the Blue Ponies shined as the Havre girls finished second and the Pony boys were fourth.

Highlights from the meet included Havre sophomore Macy Brandon setting a new HHS record with her win in the 400 meters. Brandon finished with a Blue Pony best 58.54. Havre also got a second place from Kaydence Reiter in the 100 meters, and third in the 200. Hailey Gingery won the 800 meters, while Ashlyn Ford finished in second in the 3,200. Kyanna Jarvis finished sixth in the 300 hurdles, while the team of Macee May, Brandon, Jarvis and Reiter won the 4x100 relay.

In the field, the Ponies dominated the high jump with Jarvis taking first and Ari Gary finishing second, while May took first in the long jump and third in the triple jump.

In the boys meet, Havre got a second place from Brayden Kimberling in the 100 meters, and then he returned to win the 200. In the 400 meters, Shane Patacsil and Trayden Riley finished third and fourth, respectively, while Caleb Tomac won the 800 meters, and Mason Gregoire finished sixth in the 3,200. Jacob Herring added a third place for the Ponies in the 300 hurdles, while the Ponies finished second in the 4x100 and sixth in the 4x400.

In the field, Tommy Lewis finished sixth in the shot put and Herring took sixth in the javelin.

Now, with the regular season in the books, the Ponies will turn their attention to this weekend's Eastern A in Laurel. The Havre girls are the favorite to capture the divisional team title, and punch extra tickets to the state meet, while the Blue Pony boys are also inn contention for a trophy.

Havre head coach Kari Filius' team has also pre-qualified a bevy of boys and girls for the Class A State Track and Field Meet, which runs next weekend, also in Laurel.
