Northstars sweep Lewistown at home

It was a big Northern District debut for the Havre Northstars. Last Sunday, Havre defeated Lewistown in a district doubleheader at Legion Field.

Havre won the first game 5-1 and took to the nightcap 2-1.

Havre scored its first run of the season in the first inning of the first game as Tyson Brandon singled in Terek Shipp. The Redbirds answered with an RBI double of their own in the fourth.

Havre was able score in the fifth inning. Shortstop Ezra Pyle scored on a passed ball to break the tie. On the very next pitch, designated hitter Jevin Jenkins clubbed his first home run of the season over the left field fence to break the game open for the Northstars, (4-1). Colter Solomon was able to add another insurance run by drawing a bases loaded walk in the next inning to seal the game.

Tanner Delarosa carried momentum from his pitching outing last Sunday into this start, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing one run and striking out four Redbirds. Shipp came in to close the door in the sixth inning by getting the final two outs via strikeout. The Northstars combined for 11 hits as a team in the first win.

Much like in game one, game two proved to be a tight affair, except this time throughout the contest. Like game one, Havre jumped out to the early lead, getting a fielder's choice by Jenkins in the first inning and an RBI single from Brandon in the third, which scored Solomon. Lewistown scored the next nning on a sacrifice bunt. From there, it was a pitcher's dual as Quinn Elliot got the start, throwing five innings and striking out four Redbirds and only walking one. Solomon came in and capped off his day with two innings of shutout ball on the mound, striking out three.

The Northstars are now 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in district play. Havre also took on the Great Falls Chargers AA for the second time this season on Wednesday night.
