The Havre Northstars American Legion baseball team was anxious to get their 2024 season started. But, their home opener was going to be tough as the Northstars hosted the Great Falls AA Chargers last Sunday at Legion Field.
And while it was tough sledding for the young Havre team, head coach Patch Wirtzberger's squad battled the AA Chargers in each game.
In the opener, Havre dropped a tough 6-0 decision to the Chargers, who showed off some strong pitching as the Northstars were shut out at the plate.
That good Great Falls pitching was still there in the second game of the non-conference doubleheader as the Northstars lost to the Chargers 2-0 in the nnightcap. Havre was strong defensively, but couldn't muster any offense against the experienced Chargers.
Havre's Terek Shipp started the first game for the Northstars and took the loss against the powerful Chargers, while Tanner DeLarosa started game two for the Northstars.
Havre (0-2) will be right back at home this Sunday when the Northstars open the district season with a home doubleheader against the Lewistown Redbirds. The first pitch in the Northern District Doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. this Sunday at Legion Field.
