Blue Ponies sweep on the diamond, win regular season title

The Havre High softball team finished its home schedule with two wins at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field.

On Friday, the Ponies crushed Sidney 10-0 in five innings. Bree Hanson hit a homer for Havre. Havre was already up, 4-0 at that point. The Ponies also got four runs by RBI singles. Camille Keeley lead the team with three RBIs on three hits. Keeley now has 21 RBIs in 16 games played.

Elle Verploegen dominated in the circle. She took a perfect game into the fifth inning, allowing only one hit and striking out eight Eagles. She got her ninth win of the season.

And with a 7-0 win over Glendive on Saturday afternoon, the Ponies clinched the No. 1 seed in the divisional tournament.

The game started off slow for both teams, but in the third inning, Jersi Morse beat out a throw for an infield single and was able to advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Verploegen. She came around to score two batters later after catcher Keeley singled her in. Kamree Oliver got an RBI double in the next at-bat to bring Keeley in. Two batters after that, left Hanson nailed a two-run double and it was 4-0 Blue Ponies after three innings.

In her final game at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field, Verploegen shined once again. In her latest complete game shutout, she allowed 2 hits and struck out 10 Red Devils to improve to 10-3 on the season.

Havre is 11-6 on the year as the Ponies head to Butte for a last tournament of the regular season this weekend.
