The Havre Blue Pony tennis teams got a taste of the big-time Tuesday when the Blue Ponies traveled to Great Falls.
Playing against Class AA powers Great Falls High and CMR, the Ponies were sharp, but still had some tough matches, as the Ponies boys lost to the Bison 5-3 and the Rustlers 7-1 while the HHS girls fell to the Rustlers 7-1 and tied the Bison 4-4.
In the GFH dual, the Havre boys got wins at No. 1 doubles from Carter and Max Spangler, at No. 2 doubles by Reid Kato and Callen Stoner, and No. 3 doubles from Mason Kinsella and Carter Chagon. The HHS girls saw victories from Heather Herring at No. 2 singles, Tyley Hemmer at No. 3 and Lindsey Leinwand at No. 4, while the team of Kylee McNew and Jadyn Cole won in doubles.
Against CMR, Kinsell and Chagnon got a win at No. 3 doubles for the boys, while Leinwand went 2-0 at No. 4 singles for the Pony girls.
Playing Class AA teams was a good experience for head coach Jeff Miller's teams, and the Ponies will now turn their attention back to Class A rivals as the Ponies head east for the Glendive Elks Invitational.
The two-day tournament will give Havre a chance to once agains see divisional rivals in Glendive and Miles City, while also challenging themselves against Southeast A powers Billings Central and Hardin. On both the boys and girls side, the tournament in Glendive will be a great way for the Ponies to go into the final month of the season.
