Pony tracksters shine in Laurel

Another weekend, another great result for the Havre High track and field teams.

The Blue Ponies went to Laurel for the Laurel Invitational this past Saturday, where the Pony girls won the meet with 121 points, finishing just ahead of the host Locomotives, while the Havre boys were third with 67 points. Laurel scored 169.5 points to finish first.

In the HHS girls meet, the duo of Kaydence Reiter and Macy Brandon continued to shine in the sprints. Reiter finished second and Brandon fourth in the 100 meters, while Reiter won the 200. Brandon also returned to finish second in the 400 meters. Freshman Ashlyn Ford also continued her amazing season with a win the 800 meters, while Gracie Shandorf and Clara Haslem placed fourth and fifth in the 1,600, and Hailey Gingery brought home the gold in the 3,200. Kyanna Jarvis also captured gold for the Ponies in the 100 hurldes, while she, Reiter, Brandon and Macee May won the 4x100 relay. The team of Reiter, Brandon, Jarvis and Gingery also placed fifth in the 4x400 relay.

Jarvis' big day continued with a second place in the high jump, while May got gold for the Ponies in the long jump and the triple jump. Madelynn Conner finished fifth in the shot put, while Roma Gum was fourth in the javelin. Rounding out the scoring for the Ponies was Taylor Leeds with a second place in the pole vault.

Individually on the HHS boys team, Brayden Kimberling finished fourth for the Ponies in the 100 meters, as well as third in the 200. The Ponies were strong in the 400 as well as Michael Emge placed fourth and Shane Patacsil was sixth, while Caleb Tomac placed second in the 1,600 and Mason Gregoire was first in the 3,200 meters.

In the hurdles, the boys got a fifth place from Ciaran Courtnage, while Jacob Herring placed third in the 300 hurdles. The team of Brisbin Reiter, Kimberling, Emge, and Carson Harris took third in the 4x100 relay for more points for HHS, while Herring, Tomac, Rhett Wertheimer and Trayden Riley finished second for HHS in the 4x400.

In the field, Tommy Lewis was awesome for Havre, winning the shot put.

Next up for head coach Kari Filius' team is a trip to East Helena for a meet on Saturday.
