With a pair of road wins in the Eastern A this weekend, the Havre High softball team made it a perfect 3-0 for the week. Havre was supposed to play Glendive Friday and Sidney Saturday, but instead, the Ponies played both Eastern A rivals Saturday in Sidney.
And head coach Tony Vigliotti's team made it a clean road sweep.
Havre beat the host Eagles 12-2 in game one. The Ponies exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, and the Eagles never caught up.
Ainslee Courtnage and Kamree Oliver combined for a bevy of hits and seven RBIs for the Pony offense, while the Ponies had 10 hitters reach base at least once. In the circle, Rachel Jette threw a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings and striking out seven.
The Blue Ponies came right back on the field for a 12-1, five-inning win over the Red Devils. It was another superb outing for Elle Verploegen, who struck out eight, while allowing one run and two hits on the afternoon.
Verploegen got plenty of support at the plate, too. The Ponies were able to score four runs each in the last two innings to end the game. Four batters drove in 10 of Havre's runs. Jette had three RBIs, while Brenna Hanson had three, Oliver added two, and catcher Camille Keeley drove in two as Havre improved to 7-3 this season and remained tied for first place in the Eastern A.
Havre will take a break from conference play when the Ponies head to a tournament this weekend in Frenchtown.
