The Havre High softball team got in four games at the Fergus Invitational this past weekend in Lewistown.
On Friday, Havre split their two tournament games, falling to Eastern A rival Billings Central 11-1 in five innings, while the Ponies beat East Helena 11-4.
Against the Rams, Brenna Hanson had an RBI for the Ponies, while Jersi Morse had a pair of hits. In the second outing, Morse, Hanson, and Kamree Oliver each drove in runs, while Rachel Jette hit a home run and had five total bases..
In the circle, Verploegen struck out nine East Helena batters.
On the second day of the tournament, Saturday, head coach Tony Vigliotti's team fell to Laurel 11-6 and Columbia Falls 11-6.
Game one was tied at 3-3 after one inning with pitcher Rachel Jette belting a two-run homer and Kamree Oliver singling to give Havre a lead. The Blue Ponies took their second lead of the game in the next inning as Verploegen drove in Ainsley Courtnage on an RBI single. That was as close as the Ponies could get though.
Saturday's second game was a tough one for the Ponies, who were down 7-0 early but ended up scoring four runs in the fourth inning as Hanson crushed grand slam homer to bring the Ponies back. But, The Wildcats equaled that total in the bottom of the inning. Verploegen and Jette drove in the other two runs on the afternoon.
Havre, now 4-3 overall, will return to action Tuesday when the Ponies host Glasgow at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field.
