It wasn't their home meet, but, it was their track. And the Havre Blue Ponies made the most of the annual Cal Wearley Invitational, held Wednesday at the Havre Middle School.
The HHS girls dominated the event with 244 points, while the HHS boys scored 104 points, both finishing in first place.
On the girls side, Kaydence Reiter won the 100 meters, while Macy Brandon was second for the Ponies and CJI's Brie Mattson was fifth. Reiter also captured the 200, while Mattson was third, Fort Benton's Etta Wicks was third and Turner's Bridget Reed was sixth.
Not to be outdone, Brandon won the 400 meters for the Ponies, while Reed was second, Chinook's Hallie Neibauer was third, Havre's Ashlyn Ford was fourth and Mattson was fifth. Ford, just a freshman, added a win in the 800 for HHS while Hailey Gingery was third and Chinook's Alexus Seymour was fourth.
In the 1,600, Gingery captured first place, while Seymour was second, and teammate Neva Lowe was fourth. Big Sandy's Alex Worrall was sixth as well. Chinook's Lowe also placed second in the 3,200.
Havre got a victory from Kyanna Jarvis in the 100-meter hurdles, while Reed was third for Turner. Reed also finished second, and teammate Ali Doyle placed fourth in the 300 hurdles.
As expected, the Havre girls dominated the relays. The team of Brandon, Jarvis, Reiter and Emily Leeds won the 4x100, while Brandon, Ford, and both Kyanna and Amaya Jarvis combined to win the 4x400.
In field events for the girls, Chinook's Hannah Schoen won the shot put, while Havre's Madalynn Carter was fourth. Havre also got a fifth place from Roma Gum in the discus, and she also placed fourth in the javelin.
Meanwhlle, Kyanna Jarvis captured the high jump for the Ponies, while Fort Benton's Angeline Riener was second and CJI's Brynn Kammerzell was fourth. Doyle also took second for Turner in the long jump, while Mattson was third and Doyle fifth in the triple jump.
Individually, local boys had plenty of success as well.
In the 100 meters, Havre got a third from Michael Emge, a fourth from Brayden Kimberling and a sixth from Brisbin Reiter. Emge and Kimberling also finished first and second in the 200, while Rhett Wertheimer placed fifth. Turner's Ryan Doyle placed first in the 400, while Havre's Caleb Tomac, who also captured a win in the 3,200 meters. Doyle added a win in the 800 for Turner, while Mason Gregoire was fourth for the Ponies, Landen Beck of Chinook was fifth and North Star's Carter Campbell was sixth. Harlem's Branlin Foote won the 1,600, CJI's Cooper Street was second, Harlem's Ethan Walker was third and Chinook's Isaac Kelly was fourth. Foote also placed second in the 3,200 while Gregoire was third.
Havre did well in the hurdles. Jacob Herring won the 300 for the Ponies, while Ciaran Courtnage was second in the 110 hurdles. In the relays, the team of Reiter, Emge, Kimberling and Carson Harris won the 4x100 for Havre, while Shane Patacsil, Zack May, Herring and Tomac took first in the 4x400.
In the field, North Star's Gavin Clawson was second in the shot put, and fourth in the discus. Meanwhile, Box Elder's Tracen Jillot took first in the high jump, while Chinook's Jameson Nordboe was second and Rocky Boy's Ryder Henderson was fourth. Fort Benton's Trumann Giese won the long jump, while Jilot was second, Doyle was third, Chinook's Carson Nissenn was fourth, CJI's Ty Brackenn was fifth and May was sixth for the Ponies. CJI's Ryland St. John won the triple jump, while Doyle was second and Box Elder's Dreyden Anderson was fourth.
The Ponies also finished strong in the pole vault with Reed Mantle placing second and Teegan Solomon finishing fourth.
Many of the same teams that competed at the Cal Wearley Wednesday will be back at the Havre Middle School Track for the Havre Invitational, which gets underway Saturday at 9 a.m.
