Ponies look to build momentum on the diamond

Off to a hot start, the Havre High fastpitch softball team is wishing it would stay hot outside.

That's because, weather permitting, the Blue Ponies have a chance to keep a good thing going this weekend.

The Ponies are slated to make their home debut this Saturday against Miles City, but the forecast isn't looking great for that.

But first, Havre is set to travel to Lewistown today to battle arch rival Fergus on a conference matchup.

Head coach Tony Vigliotti's Blue Ponies got off to a great start when they traveled to, and thrashed, Miles City 13-0 to open the season. In that game, Elle Verploegen threw a five-inning no-hitter for the Ponies.

Now, HHS will turn its attention to the Golden Eagles, led by former Big Sandy star and Havre Northstars standout Mike Mangold. The Eagles are traditionally one of the top teams in the Eastern A, and they and the Ponies have a great rivalry over the years.

After that game, Havre is set for its first home game at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. The forecast isn't looking good for that one against the Cowgirls, but Havre will prepare nonetheless.

The Ponies face off against the Eagles this afternoon in Lewistown. Then the home-opener Saturday in Havre is slated for 1 p.m. at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field.
