Born Aug. 7, 1931, to Eric and Erna (Kluber) Ruby in Oklahoma City, OK, Cal grew up in Oklahoma with his older sister, Erleen, and brother, Eric Jr. When Uncle Sam called Cal joined the Air Force. He was sent to Korea and from there to Japan. He put in to return to the southwest United States but instead was sent to Portland, OR. They returned to Montana, where he enrolled in the College of Great Falls, graduating from there with a degree in education. Cal taught high school in Kremlin, Box Elder and Roundup, MT. While teaching in Roundup he was approached by the local banker to go to work at the bank. When the bank was sold the new owner wanted Cal to move to Plentywood, MT, to work in the bank there.

The family moved back to Great Falls, MT, in 1980 where they resided until moving to Boise, ID, in 2006 to be closer to two of their daughters.

He is survived by his wife, Julianne, and children Joseph (Melanie) of Helena, MT, Carolyn (Daniel Weilage) of Boise, ID, Chris (Vicki) of Plentywood, MT, James (Tamara) of Kerrville, TX, Catherine Arment of Boise, ID, Connie (Bill Higgins) of Eau Claire, WI, and Jeff (Michelle) of Chandler, AZ; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

One daughter, Cheryl Ann, preceded him in death. His parents, brother and sister also preceded him in death.
