Box Elder Candlelight Prayer Vigil tonight

by Havre Daily News Staff

A Candlelight Prayer Vigil is being held tonight in Box Elder from 6 p.m. to dusk.

Participants are encouraged to bring a candle and the name of a recently deceased loved one, regardless of how they met their end.

Certified Chaplain G. Bruce Meyers, an organizer for the event, said the event is for anyone surviving a recently deceased loved one, but the shooting deaths of Darrin Wade Bernard-Caplette and Thomas R. “T.R.” Yallup last Thursday in Box Elder spurred on holding this event.

“Everyone is living in fear out here,” Meyers said this morning.

He said everyone in the area is invited, and he has invited tribal leaders, law enforcement agencies, representatives of Montana’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons and Congress as well as others to the event.

“It affects all of our communities,” Meyers said.

A flyer about the vigil said it is focused on the recently deceased, especially those missing and murdered, dead by suicide, overdose, violence, domestic violence and so on.

“There is no way around grief, only through it,” the flier said. “Know that you are surrounded by love and that you are never alone.”

“Join us by the Box Elder post office and help unite our community through prayer and support,” it added.
