National Weather Service has issued a flood warning affecting northern Blaine and Hill counties along Lodge Creek near the international border with Canada, with minor flooding forecast.
The warning was issued at 6:48 this morning and is in effect until further notice, Weather Service said.
At 6:25 this morning, the creek was at 7.9 feet with flood stage at 7 feet, the warning said.
The creek is expected to crest this weekend at about 9.3 feet.
The greatest flood impacts will likely be for areas close to the creek, the warning said.
Minor flooding has occurred in the area due to snowmelt, the warning said.
Rain is in this region’s forecast through the week and weekend with a chance of snow over the weekend in the northern part of the region.
The warning reminds people to avoid driving into flooded areas. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the warning said.
