Palm Sunday
You know, Lord, Palm Sunday years ago was a bit different then it is today. Several of us were together, Susie smiled and shared: "When I was just a little kid, I remember one Palm Sunday when the Pastor mentioned there were some palms 'twigs' by the back door; that each one of us should each go get one. As we did, someone pushed the piano toward the backwall and a door opened. Helen kept playing lovely music. One young guy took the lead of us with palms, we followed out the front door, across the near neighbor's yard and around to the back of the church. We were singing, having a great time, just imagining Jesus entering Jerusalem, when suddenly, there was Randy on a donkey, following us. We smiled and waved, he smiled, paused, waved back at us, then he rode off. We went into the church via that door where the piano now sat. That outdoor procession was awesome. We have never experienced anything like that ever again.
"Years later, in a different town and church, little kids were each given a palm branch, they followed a leader, marching around the sanctuary - they and the church-filled congregation sang lovely songs, followed by a great Palm Sunday Gospel message.
Marci added: "To me, every word felt like a powerful progression in Christianity; it felt like a description of how much Jesus loves each of us; I was really touched to the core. I think the pastor's prayer was something like this: 'Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son, He knows us personally, He has our back, no matter what struggles happen in our lives, He is there with us and for us. Thank You, dear Father, for the gift of Your Son, who is our Lord. We praise Your Holy name, Amen!!'"
