Cold returns and snow likely throughout the week, starting tonight
It seems that the risk of minor flooding from Lodge Creek moving into Hill and Blaine counties is low, as the National Weather Service was poised this morning to update their advisory in the area.
The Weather Service Monday extended an advisory they had put out about flooding, the result of snow melt in Canada north this part of Montana, but this morning the service said they have no more concerns about increased flooding.
National Weather Service Great Falls Meteorologist Rosemary Webb said the flooding in the Lodge Creek area is steadily receding, and while the area will likely see some precipitation this week none of it is likely to affect flooding.
Webb said there is a chance of about a half inch of snow tonight, which will likely melt, though not enough to affect the Lodge Creek flooding.
After that, she said, Wednesday will likely see a second round of snowfall, but because temperatures will likely stay low after that, the 1 to 2 inches predicted then will likely stick around.
That comes after unseasonably warm temperatures in the region, with Havre seeing a high of 67 Monday and highs in the 50s for several days previously. The normal value for Havre this time of year is the mid-40s.
Havre broke no records with its highs, although, just to the west, both Cut Bank and Choteau set new records for highs Monday, 68 and 70, respectively.
But that is changing the rest of this week, after predicted highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s in this area today.
Indeed, snow is predicted consistently from tonight through the weekend, though it will taper off significantly starting Friday.
Wednesday evening predicts between 1 and 3 inches of new accumulation, with the same predicted Thursday along with another 1 to 2 inches that night.
Havre is predicted to have a high of 32 Wednesday and 30 degrees Thursday, with 24 Friday and 21 Saturday.
Lows will be in the low teens until Saturday night.
Sunday will likely see a high around 22 with much the same Monday, and lows in the single digits.
