Members of the H. Earl Clack Museum board discussed a number of upcoming events at their regular meeting Monday, with their Hands-On History event set for April 20.
The long-running event, put on for local youth by the H. Earl and Margaret Turner Clack Memorial Museum Foundation, returned in 2023 after three years away due to the COVID-19 pandemic featuring activities ranging from beading, to leathercraft.
The event centers around teaching young people about how things were made far back in Havre's history and what those times were like through a series of hands-on activities.
Monday H. Earl and Margaret Turner Clack Memorial Museum Foundation Board President Elaine Morse said the event will be April 20 this year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The board also discussed opening the Faber School building at the Great Northern Fairgrounds during the Living History celebration, a community-wide event about local history held in late spring.
Board members said as long as the weather permits and they can replace some of the building's shutters they should be able to open the historic school house during that time where they can sell copies of "In the (Even More) Years Gone By," a recently updated book on the history of homesteading in the Havre area toward the north.
Board members also discussed a number of issues around the operation of the museum and the Wahkpa Chu'gn Buffalo Jump.
Board Co-Chair Lela Patera read a report from Museum Manager Caroline Tuss which said that improvements have recently been made to their displays' lighting and their temporary display about the history of the local Boy Scouts was very well received.
Patera, reading from the report, said they were recently contacted by local Girl Scout leaderships about doing something similar, which would be an interesting project.
She said the museum also recently received a number of books by local historian Gary Wilson on Long George Francis.
Board members then briefly discussed filling the board position held by Vickie Clouse, who died late last year.
Board member Dave Martens Sr. said he knows a possible candidate they could get in touch with.
