Sugarbeeters look to make run at title

After winning its challenge game to finish second in the Northern B Divisionals, the Chinook girls basketball team has qualified for the Class B State Tournament in Billings this weekend. As the Sugarbeeters head into their final games of the year, they will look to build on their win from earlier in the week and go on a run.

The Sugarbeeters will begin the tournament tonight at 5 p.m. with a game against the Baker Spartans. Baker heads into the contest with a 19-4 record and is coming off a second-place finish in the Southern B Divisionals. The Sugarbeeters will look to slow Baker's top players such as Madison O'Connor and Emily Enos.

The Sugarbeeters are 22-2 this year and are coming off a second-place finish in the Northern B Divisionals to qualify for the state tournament. As the Sugarbeeters look to go on a run this weekend, they will need Hallie Neibauer, Alexus Seymour and others to excel on the court.

The Class B State Tournament began earlier this morning with a contest between the Huntley Project Red Devils and the Missoula Loyola Breakers. Huntley Project is 22-1 this year and just won the Southern B Divisional championship. The Red Devils have been led by the likes of Paige Lofing this winter.

The Missoula Loyola Breakers are 19-3 this year and they just took second in the Western B Divisionals. As the Breakers look to go on a run this weekend, they look to Sammy McHugh and Spencer Laird to lead the way.

The tournament continued this morning with a game between Malta and Florence-Carlton. The Malta M-Ettes are 16-7 and just won the Northern B Divisional championship. The M-Ettes will need players such as Kendall Clausen, Denvyr Tuss and others to play well this weekend.

The Florence-Carlton Falcons are 19-7 and are coming off a third-place finish in the Western B Divisionals. As they look to go on a run, the Falcons will need Maggie Schneiter and Emory Ralston to play well this weekend.

The tournament will continue today at 3:30 p.m. with Anaconda and Ennis facing off. The Anaconda Copperheads came into the contest with a 19-4 record and they just won the Western B Divisional championship. Top players for Anaconda include Makena Patrick and Meela Mitchell.

The Ennis Mustangs are 18-7 this year and they qualified for the Class B State Tournament after taking third in the Southern B Divisionals. Ennis will look to Marisa Snider and Mikendra Ledgerwood to lead the way.

The semifinals of the Class B State Tournament will be this Friday at 3:30 and 5 p.m. Then on Saturday, the consolation game will be at 3:30 p.m. with the championship game starting at 6:30 p.m. In their first appearance in the Class B State Tournament, the Sugarbeeters will look to go on a run to play Saturday night.

The Chinook girls basketball team begins the Class B State Tournament with a contest against Baker today at 5 p.m.
