Montana Seed Show to fill Harlem High School this weekend

Events set from Thursday through Saturday

One of the biggest agricultural events in the state returns this week to Harlem, with the Montana Seed Show set to run Thursday through Friday in Harlem High School.

Setup is scheduled for Thursday, including for agricultural exhibits, woodworking, the art show and educational and commercial booths. The art show setup continues Friday 8-10 a.m.

Friday starts off with breakfast 6:30-9 a.m.

Friday also features the Rocky Mountain Biometrix Heatlh Fair from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering free health evaluations for employees, spouses and dependents age 18 and older who are enrolled in Blue Cross Blue Shield, Allegiance, Pacific Source or Mountain Health Co-op medical plan.

People can sign up for an appointment at https://rmbiometrix.com or call 406-231-1803 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.

The exhibit buildings open at 8 a.m. Friday, with the entry of pies and breads starting at 8:30 a.m. and the preliminary judging in those contests starting at 10 a.m.

The Seed Show has two presentations, called interest meetings, scheduled this year, with the first Friday starting at 11 a.m.

Friday, Austin Haney will present the story of the Stevens Expedition, which was tasked with finding and mapping the best route for the first transcontinental railroad. The expedition's work from 1853-1855 still impacts much of Montana to this day.

The quilt show runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lunch runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and the pie and bread auction and merchandise drawing will be held 2-5 p.m.

A special fundraising dinner is again set for the Seed Show, starting at 5 p.m. Friday in the high school Vo Ag Room. Harlem's FFA Club is hosting a pancake dinner with pancakes, sausages and eggs.

Saturday's events wrap up with the Quick Art Competition at 6 p.m.

Breakfast opens Saturday's events, running from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and the exhibit building opens at 8 a.m.

An antique tractor and classic car show is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Vo AG Room.

Saturday's interest meeting starts at 11 a.m., with Dog Tag Buddies founder and executive director DeeDee Baker talking about the program that provides no-cost services to help military veterans adopt and train rescue dogs to become companion or service animals.

The pie and bread auction and merchandise drawing continues Saturday, running from 1-3 p.m.

The seed show culminates Saturday with the awards ceremony and live auction, starting at 2 p.m., and winds down with taking down and removing exhibits.
